Corneal Ulcers and Abrasions
Corneal ulcers, or ulcerative keratitis, are the inflammatory reaction of the outer layer of the cornea due to infection or trauma. It is a serious condition that has the potential to permanently impair vision or even perforate the eye. It is usually diagnosed with the use of fluorescein stain, exposing the corneal stroma.
In addition to medication that might be necessary, it is ideal to protect the cornea from further trauma using a protective lubricant or bandage contact lens in more severe cases.
